Englisch lernen present continous and simple present

 Jim is watching television. He is not playing the guitar. 

But Jim has a guitar. He often plays it and he plays very well. 

Jim plays the guitar but he is not playing the guitar now.

Is he playing the guitar? No, he isn't. (present continous)

Does he play the guitar? Yes, he does.  


Present continous: 

Please be quiet. I'm working

Tom is having a shower at the moment. 

Take an umbrella with you. It's raining

You can turn off the television. I'm not watching it. 

Why are you under the table? What are you doing?


Present simple: 

I work every day from 9 o'clock to 5.30. 

Tom has a shower every morning. 

It rains a lot in winter. 

I don`t watch television very often. 

What do you usually do at the weekend?


We do not use these verbs in present continous: 

  • like
  • prefer
  • love
  • want
  • hate 
  • need
  • know
  • mean
  • unterstand
  • believe
  • remember
  • forget
  • depend


Use the present simple only with these verbs: (I want / do you like? etc.)

I'm tired. I want to go home. 

Do you know that girl? Yes, but I don't remember her name. 

I don't understand. What do you mean?

  • I am a photographer. 
  • I'm a bus driver. 
  • I'm a window cleaner. 
  • We are teachers. 
Excuse me, do you speak English?
Where's Ann? I don't know. 
What's funny? Why are you laughing?
What does your sister do? She's a dentist. 
It is raining. I don't want to go out in the rain. 
Where are you come from? Canada. 
How much does it cost to phone Canada?
George is a good tennis player but he don't play very often. 

Excuse me, do you speak English?
Where's Tom? He's having a shower. 
I don't watch telvision very often. 
Listen! Somebody is singing. 
Sandra is tired. She wants to go home now. 
How often do you read newspaper?
Excuse me but you are sitting in my place. Oh, I'm sorry. 
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you speak more slowly?
It's late. I'm going home now. Are you coming with me?
What time does your father finish work in the evenings?
Can you turn off the radio. I'm not listening to it. 
Where's Paul? In the kitchen. He's cooking something. 
Martin doesn't usually drive to work. He usually walks. 
Sue don't like coffee. She prefers tea.
